Serena Williams’ Moxie Off the Court Takes Center Stage In New York Magazine Profile
By Cocktail Culture Staff

We all know Serena Williams is in great shape, but she's also extremely limber.

The tennis great shows off her physique in a new cover story/photoshoot for New York Magazine. And besides looking bodaciously sexy for photographer Norman Jean Roy, Williams talks about racism, her budding fashion career, oh and that business about a Grand Slam in an interview with writer Kerry Howley. She sounds like a woman who is focused and knows all too well how many people look up to her.

“I don’t think about it,” she says. “I don’t dwell in the past. If I do, I’ll be swallowed up by negativity. As Mandela once said, ‘I will be in a mental prison.’ ”

And, as for winning the Grand Slam?

“I have to go into New York thinking, ‘Listen, I want to win the U.S. Open. I want to defend my title,’ ” she told the magazine in July. “Hopefully, people will be cheering me on to, like, push me over the edge, give me that extra strength I need to go for this historic moment.”
