Karlie Kloss Launches Klossy, a YouTube Channel

Karlie Kloss has nearly 3 million Instagram followers, a widely-followed Snapchat account, and thousands of Twitter followers. But, because that’s seemingly not enough of an insider’s perspective, she’s launched her own YouTube channel to show her adventures from her point of view. 

 

 

On Tuesday, the supermodel launched Klossy with a two minute promo produced by viral video sensation Casey Neistat. Within just a few hours, it had been viewed more than 13,000 times.  In the clip, she tells her origin story from birth to being discovered by a modeling agent. From there, things took a turn from typical midwest teenager to sought after 16-year-old by the likes of Donatella Versace, Oscar de la Renta, and Marc Jacobs. She’d be in class one day and strutting runways from New York to Paris to Milan the next; her life got “pretty crazy pretty quickly.” She moved to New York shortly thereafter and has been in “full pursuit” ever since, covering major magazines and fronting fashion campaigns. But don’t be fooled by the pretty face and impossibly fit body because modeling’s not her only passion. She kickstarted a career in baking making Karlie’s Kookies, learned how to code, and just got accepted to New York University. 

 

“I’ve spent the majority of my life in front of a camera,” Karlie says as she picks up a black digital camera (seriously, who doesn’t just use their phone these days?) and continues, “but not my camera. And that’s where this is different. These are the things you didn’t get to see before.” Such as the “crazy” things that happen on set to the “thrilling” moments before stepping onto the runway.

 

Kloss’s step to expose even more of her over-exposed life is just another example of the fact that models now have to be more than just a frame to hang clothes on. Once, models could have entire careers that didn’t require them to open their mouths — Kate Moss has only recently been filmed speaking, her voice unfamiliar to even some of her biggest fans — but today, the likes of Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner, and Cara Delevingne must be in constant communication with fans in order to excel. 

 

Kloss has actually been a pioneer in the field of expanding her public persona beyond the insulated fashion industry. Even though she’s only 22, she’s been working for seven years and was an It-girl before her reality star contemporaries were known as anything other than famous daughters on high rated shows on second rate networks. 

 

The supermodel’s a brand beyond her body — and is now taking it a few leaps further.
